Work experience and questions

There’s a lot that I could talk about that it’s hard to figure out where to start. Today was a much better day and I am becoming more excited about the work that I will be doing at D.L.F. and partnering with this organization. It may not seem like a lot going on right now and mainly attending meetings, but that’s all apart of the process. Things will start to pick up come October but my schedule is starting to come together where I know what it is that I will be doing. In regards to work, there are 2 books that I am working on reading. Each of my bosses/supervisors has asked that I read so that I have a better understanding of where they come from and what they want me to get out of these next 2 years of service.

I have been to 2 different community association meetings and at each meeting I wonder where the diversity from the communities are. I graduated with a major in Spanish and have a passion for the Hispanic population. The communities that we work in have a high Hispanic population but they are not represented at these meetings. So, why is it that they are not represented? How can we bridge the gap between the community and the Hispanic population since everyone’s voice is important in their communities?

As my 2 years of service goes on, I will be helping with the youth development outreach and I look forward to being able to put some of my past experience into practice. I have worked with college students since I was a member of InterVarsity but have only 1 year of experience with working with youth so this will be a new experience but I had also originally been an education major where I was going to be working with middle school- high school students. My dream of being a teacher may not have happened as I had planned but in the end, it is going to work out where I will be working with the age group that I had intended to be working with and influencing!
