One of the books is called the Next Generation Leader and I
have read 3 chapters so far and I have to agree with what I have read up to
this point so far. The first chapter got me to start thinking and there’s a
question that I want you to think about for yourself. In this chapter it talked
about “You are doing too much” and I often find myself in this place but not
wanting to give up responsibility but it brought up the question, “what is it
that only you can do?” and that we should do what only we can do. This is a
question that I have to truly think about since I don’t know what it is that
only I can do. But later on in the chapter it talks about how we should focus
on our strengths and grow in those areas rather than try to do everything. We
should pass down the things that we are not passionate about so that others may
be able to take over. The scripture that came along with the first 3 chapters
was, Acts 6:1-7.
We shouldn’t attempt to do everything but we should play on
our strengths and delegate our weaknesses. “You are most valuable where you add
the most value” so what are you brining to your work area, your organization,
etc?
Some questions to think about:
- “What do you do that is almost effortless from your perspective but seems like a daunting task to others?”
- “In what arenas do people consider you the go-to person?”
- “What do you enjoy about your current job?”
- “What do you wish you could delegate?”
- “If you could focus more of your time and attention on one or two aspects of your job, what would they be?”
Acts 6: 1-7 "In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith."
